Original Production Of 'An Explorer's Desire'/Florence, Italy
A current concern of both The Global Theatre Project (founded in 2011) and my teaching: Amongst the background of partisan politics and fear of ‘the other’ An Explorer’s Desire seeks to bring people together in personal contemplation and communal discussion inspired by a unique use of theatre as a tool for bridge-building and activism. Communities are fracturing around the issue of refugees and immigrants. An Explorer’s Desire is rooted in the basic truth that each of us have a personal migratory narrative.
My work focuses on empowering and inspiring individual growth, activism and community-building through the arts. I founded The Global Theatre Project to explore best practices, In addition to my direction I teach theatre students and write poetry from this point of view. How I approach my characters as an actress is embedded with this multi-leveled awareness and reach.
Excerpt from recent Howlround article: 'Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche who leads the Shambhala community has said “We humans have come to a crossroads in our history: we can either destroy the world or create a good future.” Of course those of us who are sane would choose to create a good future. However we see now that willing and having passion for it are not enough. We need systems, methods, and structures that are reliable, replicable, and deliverable in order to be effective warriors right now in this fight for equity and peace. We theatre artists need to begin celebrating the Tribe of Man, offering our services to our community members to help guide them and ourselves toward a better understanding of our human capacity. To help change the civic opinion away from manipulated fear and toward reasoned, empathetic action. We need to create a hunger for intellectual curiosity and creative exploration and expression.' |
